In the IFA 2017 event, Alcatel unveiled four new smartphones in which Idol 5 and Idol 5S were included. Now, the company has made changes in the US. Idol 5 launched in the smartphone In addition to some internal upgrades, the U.S. Idol comes with 5 front-face stereo speakers and is a dedicated hardware key called as now key. There is also a VR headset named Uni360, which works with 5 "to 6" screen size of any smartphone. Idol 5 Smartphones and Uni 360 VR headset are priced at both $200 and $50 respectively. They will start specially on Cricket Wireless on October 27. It sports an aluminum body with corning Gorilla Glass protection on the front. Talking about the specifications of Idol 5, it comes with a 5.2-inch full HD (1920 x 1080 pixel) LTPS display on the front. Under the hood, 64-bit mediatech helo P20 octa-core processor with Mali-T880 MP2. It includes 2GB RAM and internal storage of 32GB. There is also a MicroSD card slot for up to 256GB of storage expansion. Smartphone runs on Android 7.0 Nougat which is out of the box with minimal customization in stock UI.
There is a 12MP camera on the rear with PDAF + CAF and dual tone LED flash. For Selfies, Idol 5 has a 5MP front camera with LED flash. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 A/B/G/N/AC, Bluetooth 4.2, FM radio, GPS, A-GPS, NFC, 3.5mm audio port and USB Type-C port. It supports 2,850 mAh non-removable batteries and MediaTek's pump express supports fast charging technology which can charge up to 0% to 100% in 100 minutes. According to the company, Idol 5 can leave talktime for up to 23.8 hours and lasts for 21 days on standby mode.
With NFC support, idol 5 can also be used for mobile payments by Android Pay. Idol 5 smartphone measures 148.08 x 71.88 x 7.62 mm and weighing 147 grams. It also packs a bunch of sensors including accelerometer, ambient light, proximity, e-compass, gyro and hall switch. Volume rotation and now the key is placed on the right edge, while the power button is on the left side. User can now customize the key to launch different functions such as a favorite app or capture a selfie.
